Any fellow bookworm will agree that you can never have too many bookmarks. No matter how plentiful your bookmark stash may be, it’s often the case that they’re nowhere to be found when you need them the most.
So what do you do when, for whatever reason, you’re interrupted right in the middle of an utterly captivating part of your novel? Do you dig inside a purse to fish out a crumpled receipt, or make do with a piece of gummy you’ve been snacking on and pray it doesn’t leave any sticky residue? You might even consider passing on the honor of keeping your place to a precious pet, gently placing a paw between the pages before making a run for the bathroom.
We’ve all been there. Thankfully, the days of desperately scrounging for anything remotely close to a bookmark are over, because you can make a cute and compact origami wherever you are.
Not only are they gorgeous and super easy to make, but you can also fold them small enough to carry inside your wallet, smartphone case, or even your pocket so you’ll never have to look around for a bookmark again.
What you’ll need:
One piece of origami paper (or any square-shaped paper)
1. Fold origami paper in half
2. Fold it in half again
3. Open it back up into a rectangle
4. Fold the right corner up (top layer only)
5. Fold left corner up (both layers)
6. Tuck the left corner into the right pocket
7. Slip onto the corner of your page!
This obviously works with any type of paper, but using origami paper will make for a beautiful, perfectly square bookmark to slip onto the corner of your book. Rectangular notepaper will work too, but the end result will be a more oblong bookmark.
It’s also worth noting that depending on the paper, the color can rub off on the precious pages of your books. Though this doesn’t happen often, we recommend testing your origami out when possible.
Now it’s time for you to go pick out your favorite origami!
